Students from Botswana to Latvia celebrate ADIT exam results

4 Mar 2021

The Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT) is delighted to announce a record-breaking cohort of successful ADIT (Advanced Diploma in International Taxation) graduates and award winners, after the December 2020 examinations. All the December exams were delivered remotely using online exam software, to students in more countries than ever before.

Despite the impact of COVID-19 across the world, a total of 929 students managed to sit ADIT exams in December 2020, in 76 countries. A record 554 students passed at least one exam, and 154 students have joined the ranks of ADIT graduates by successfully passing their third ADIT exam – 13 of whom have achieved the distinction grade for excellence in their exams.

The ADIT qualification is held now by 1,325 tax practitioners in 85 countries and territories, including the first ADIT graduates in Botswana and Latvia.

CIOT President Peter Rayney said:

“I congratulate the record number of ADIT students who successfully passed their exams in December.

“We hope it brings students some cheer and career progression in a challenging and fraught time because of the pandemic.

“The ADIT qualification is recognised among employers and educationalists as offering a rigorous and thorough test of one’s expertise in international tax. Those who meet the high standard necessary to pass the exams should feel extremely proud of their achievement.

“All ADIT exams were delivered ’virtually’ for the first time because of the impact of the pandemic. This enabled students around the world to sit their exams, online and at home, regardless of local COVID-19 restrictions. The way students have adapted so successfully to this new way of sitting exams is testament to their hard work and professionalism, and to the dedication of employers and tuition providers who support ADIT students in their learning and preparation for the exams.

“Our commitment to helping international tax professionals succeed in their career does not end upon completion of the ADIT exams. New ADIT holders are invited to subscribe as International Tax Affiliates of the CIOT. Being an Affiliate contains an ever-growing range of benefits including use of the ADIT badge, discounts on entry to a range of online tax events, and free access to the popular ADIT webinar series led by international tax experts around the world.”

The following candidates will receive awards for their achievements in the December 2020 exams:

  • Hugo Holmes of Bristol, UK, is awarded the Heather Self Medal for the best overall performance in Module 1 Principles of International Taxation.
  • Kieran Hutchinson Dean of London, UK, who is employed by Dixon Wilson Chartered Accountants, is awarded the Raymond Kelly Medal for the best overall performance in Module 2.09 United Kingdom option.

Notes

There are two windows to sit ADIT exams every year, in June and December. The first CIOT ADIT exams were in 2004. More information about ADIT can be found here

The key benefits of gaining the ADIT qualification are that it is a global benchmark of quality and an independent means of demonstrating international tax knowledge and ability. Its portability is also attractive to students and employers and it is a demonstration of a student’s expertise in multiple countries and international tax subjects.

The CIOT administers and awards ADIT students. Those who complete the ADIT are entitled to put the designatory letters 'ADIT' after their name and gain the opportunity to become an International Tax Affiliate of the CIOT.
