Volunteer with the CIOT

The CIOT is the leading professional body for tax professionals in the UK, dealing with all aspects of taxation. To achieve our objectives, we need to draw on the wide range of experience and skills of our students and members. Whether you’re a current student, newly qualified, a long standing or retired member it’s never too early or late in your career to think about volunteering.

There are a wide range of volunteering opportunities to suit different skills and experience. Whatever your area of interest or expertise we may have something for you in our range of steering groups, committees, and branches.

We currently have over 600 volunteers who typically dedicate over 20,000 hours of their time across the CIOT and ATT committees, councils, branch activities and meetings.

Volunteering with the CIOT not only helps us, but it can also provide a great way for you to:

  • Enhance and develop new skills
  • Gain valuable experience
  • Contribute to the wider profession, government and public
  • Build your personal and professional networks
  • Add excellent additional experience to your CV.

What do volunteers do?

Volunteers contribute to CIOT committees and sub-committees whose role it is to help develop services to members, advise on the format and frequency of events, review the support given to the Branches Network and monitor the support given to members in relation to compliance and other obligations of membership. Committee members sign up to a code of conduct and are generally invited to CIOT events, as well as attending the regular meetings.
