CIOT and ATT Thames Valley Branch

Welcome to the Thames Valley Branch of the Chartered Institute of Taxation and Association of Taxation Technicians.

Welcome from your Branch Chair, Amanda Fisher CTA, ATT(Fellow), TEP

The Thames Valley Branch is a large part of the CIOT/ATT Branch Network and our main objective is to provide top quality CPD for our members and anyone else that would like to attend our courses. Whether you are a general practitioner, employed with a practice, a student, or a non-tax individual, you are very welcome to attend our events. 

Our programme aims to provide great speakers and great content for all our branch conferences and CPD offerings. We provide a mixture of highly technical, practical, and non-technical content to help support our attendees with the ever-changing needs of our profession. Now that we have returned back to face-to-face courses, we will work on providing some great networking events to strengthen the connections between our branch members.  

As a branch, we have also been focusing on gaining more connection with members and the profession with the use of social media platforms such as Twitter and LinkedIn. This activity will help to keep our members up to date and provide more awareness of our branch activities.

Meet the Thames Valley Branch Committee

Thames Valley Branch Chair

Amanda Fisher

I have been on the Thames Valley branch committee for CIOT and ATT since 2014 and have helped the branch organise the CPD programme for the local members. I have enjoyed the role of Chair since 2020 and my mission is to provide great speakers and highly technical, practical and relevant content for all of our branch conferences. Also, to improve connections between the members in the branch areas and to introduce more networking events which will provide more support to members. I have over 30 years experience in all areas of tax which enables me to support clients of all sizes. I regularly lecture on tax and consult to other accounting and tax practices.

Julia Gambold

CTA FCCA TEP | River Thames Accountancy Ltd | Branch Treasurer I have been a committee member for a while now, since around 1995 at a guess, and previously I was the Oxford evening meeting secretary before taking on the treasurer role. I joined to get to know other professionals and because I enjoyed the evening meetings and networking. The Committee is a great group of people and have been helpful to know over the years, particularly as I am a sole practitioner. I have been running my own accountancy practice for over 19 years now, working from my home office. I am a general practitioner and look after a wide range of accounting and taxation issues for my clients.

Fern Bell

I am a Consultant in Deloitte’s Private Client Services (PCS) team in Reading. My role involves advising ultra-high net worth individuals, families and their businesses on matters such as residence, domicile, acquisitions and disposals and succession planning. I help organise meetings including local CPD and national soft skill events - I am passionate about getting people together. Over the past few years I have been involved in both the Thames Valley Branch committee and the New Tax Professionals committee.

Harsh Singh

I advise individuals and companies on a significant range of tax matters across both direct and indirect taxation. I provide tax planning services including group reconstructions, share schemes, family investment companies. I also cover all aspects of VAT planning and have dealt with tax planning matters surrounding significant land transactions. These days I work primarily in corporate tax but advise across all areas of taxation. I am involved with the Branch Network as I have a keen interest in taxation and wanted to give back to the local tax community.

Sean Egan

CTA FCA DipPFS. Thames Valley Branch Secretary (Reading) I’ve been on the Thames Valley committee for well over 20 years, and have served as President and Treasurer in the past. I have very much enjoyed getting to meet other tax professionals and the opportunities for networking, together with the tax technical support available through the Branch. I’ve been a partner in Craufurd Hale LLP for over 20 years, and have spent my professional career advising a diverse range of businesses and individuals on tax and financial matters. Craufurd Hale LLP is a firm of Chartered Accountants and Chartered Tax Advisers with approximately 35 employees.

Jeffrey Smith

Until the recent Covid disruption I have organised the budget seminar at Windsor Racecourse each year. I remain involved with the branch network to make sure that I keep up to date with the detail and interpretation of the latest changes to the tax legislation and also to enjoy the camaraderie of meeting with others who have much in common and with whom conversation flows easily. I am the Managing Partner of Eacotts, Chartered Accountants and a past chairman of the branch. I was the firms tax partner for 20 years and am a Responsible Individual for auditing purposes. In summary I am a General Practitioner. I have been with the firm since qualifying with Robson Rhodes. I am also on the main committee of ICAEW Chartered Accountants Thames Valley, the local society and nationally was on their Council for 8 years to 2021.
