Severn Valley Branch

27 Apr 2021

Welcome to the Severn Valley Branch of the Chartered Institute of Taxation and Association of Taxation Technicians.

Welcome from Severn Valley Branch Chair, James Geary

Welcome to the home page for the Severn Valley branch of the CIOT!  The Severn Valley branch covers a wide geographical area encompassing Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Worcestershire and parts of Wiltshire and Oxfordshire, and we organise a lecture programme that runs between September and May each year.  The committee has access to some of the very best tax lecturers on the circuit, and we work to ensure we provide a broad range of subject matter relevant for local tax professionals.

The lectures are aimed at both seasoned and newly qualified tax professionals, as well as students and general practitioners.  As well as being an excellent source of structured CPD for members of not just CIOT and ATT, but other professional bodies, our events provide a great opportunity to network and catch up with co-professionals, as well as sharing ideas and experiences.  The lectures are open and interactive, so participation is encouraged to ensure the content is as helpful as possible.

If you have any comments, suggestions or feedback concerning our events, whether subject or venue related, please do not hesitate to contact me or any of the committee members.  The branch can also be contacted via email at severnvalley@tax.org.uk

Meet the Severn Valley Branch Committee

James Geary

Client Director and Head of Corporate Tax at Randall & Payne. My key areas of specialism are R&D, corporate structuring, Capital Allowances, Patent Box, EMI Schemes and Employment Tax. With R&D in particular I am involved with CIOT liaison with HMRC policy on operational issues. I became involved in the Branch at the same time as also getting involved in the technical committees with CIOT. The benefits of involvement are both for me and my firm – for me because it is good for my profile in the tax world to be involved, and gives me the opportunity to meet like-minded people across the country and expand my professional network. For the firm, it is useful because of the insights into tax developments that I get from being in contact with high profile tax professionals and speakers.

Gina Gardner

I am a Senior Corporate Tax Accountant at Randall & Payne, and have been the first in the firm to complete the joint ACA/CTA programme, qualifying as a Chartered Accountant and Chartered Tax Advisor. I specialise in Research and Development Tax Relief amongst other Corporate Tax areas, and have been with the firm for seven years. I have decided to volunteer for the Severn Valley Branch Committee as it will enable me to gain valuable insight into the tax world, beyond my day-to-day involvement and provide me with exposure to a wide range of professionals in the field to gain a better understanding of it as a whole. As British Accountancy Awards Rising Star of the Year 2018, it is my aim to help support other new members and to be an advocate for the CIOT, hopefully becoming a point of contact for other local professionals.
