Latest HMRC ‘nudge’ letters for landlords

HMRC’s Wealthy External Forum are sending One to Many letters (see template below) in November 2022 to those taxpayers who have submitted deposits into the Tenancy Deposit Scheme but, according to HMRC, have under-declared their rental income in 2020/21 tax returns. HMRC are urging recipients to check and, where necessary, correct their 2020/21 and also ensure their 2021/22 returns disclose all rental income. Anyone with any health issues or whose personal circumstances are hindering such disclosure, are urged to contact HMRC.
