HMRC’s One to Many letter – Disposal of unlisted shares CGT

HMRC’s Wealthy External Forum has issued a briefing to forum members about ‘one to many’ letters being sent to a population of taxpayers where HMRC’s information shows they were Persons of Significant Control (PSCs) and have either disposed of all their shares or a proportion, but this has not been reflected on their 2019-20 Self-Assessment return.
The letter will request recipients check their return and if necessary, make an amendment before the 31 January 2022. A copy of the letter will be sent to the taxpayer’s agent where the taxpayer is represented by an agent.
