Customs & Borders: HMRC Trader Email - 3 February 2022

4 Feb 2022

HMRC has contacted the CIOT and other JCCC stakeholders to share a copy of their latest HMRC Trader Email.

The focus of the email is providing information about what traders need to do to ensure their goods are cleared through customs and avoid delays. The email also covers the Goods Vehicle Movement Service (GVMS) and support and services that are available to help traders when they import and export. Topics include:

  • What is the Goods Vehicle Movement Service (GVMS)?
    - Who needs to register?
    - How will you know if your goods are called for inspection?
    - EORI numbers
    - Unarrived declarations
  • Getting someone to deal with customs for you
  • Where you can get help with importing and exporting
  • Need extra support?

The Trader Emails are sent to c.155k taxpayers, comprising VAT registered traders where up to date email contacts are held, and also to people subscribed for updates from HMRC about UK transition, borders and trade on GOV.UK. In view of stakeholder feedback that there are too many borders communications following the end of staged customs controls, HMRC will reduce these to approximately once a month for the time being.

If you do not already receive the Trader Email and would like to, you can sign up at HMRC Help and Support (public-inf.co.uk). If you have any feedback in relation to the Trader Email, please contact [email protected] with ‘Trader Email’ in the title.
