Simon York CBE, former Director of HMRC’s Fraud Investigation Service and currently working as a strategic advisor with Deloitte and Sayari, will give this year’s Chartered Tax Advisers’ Address on the subject of Tackling tax crime – 21st century solutions.
Simon has spent his career in tax and financial investigation. As the first Director of HMRC’s Fraud Investigation Service, Simon built an organisation able to deploy a wide range of techniques, capabilities and powers (including criminal investigations) to tackle serious tax fraud and money laundering. Simon is proud to have helped establish the ‘J5’, the Joint Chiefs of Global Tax Enforcement, which is a groundbreaking operational alliance between international tax enforcement teams to tackle those who support international tax crime.
Simon will give a 25-30-minute keynote speech and then join a panel to respond to questions from the audience. The new CIOT President Nichola Ross Martin will chair the debate.

Mike Lewis, the new Director of the investigative think tank TaxWatch, whose previous roles include criminal financial investigator for a UN war crimes body.
Michelle Sloane, a leading tax disputes and financial crime lawyer who is a Partner at law firm RPC.
