Welcome to the Scotland Hub of the CIOT and ATT Branch Network

To help our members deal with the complexities of Scottish taxation in addition to UK-wide tax issues, the local Branches arrange a series of technical seminars each year, often working together with other professional bodies, where members and other stakeholders can learn and expand their professional network. In addition, the Scotland Hub organises the Scotland Annual Tax Conference in November of each year which attracts some of the UK’s top tax speakers and politicians.

Richard Johnston

Originally from Northern Ireland, I have lived in Edinburgh since 2003, working in financial services throughout, and now a Financial Planner at AAB. My focus is on the private client arena and, as such, my tax expertise lies in pensions, personal tax and IHT. I balance my role in the Edinburgh branch with that of Secretary for the Scotland Hub. In Edinburgh, I help with arranging and facilitating events for the local members, and I do what I can to fly the flag for our professional body, by encouraging and guiding peers to get involved.

Together with the rest of the committee we arrange the lunchtime sessions for our members to attend. We liaise with a variety of speakers on a wide range of subjects to ensure our members have a great line up. We also arrange social events for our members to attend (however this has stopped due to CaOVID). I am a Tax Manager at EY Glasgow. I specialise in corporate tax compliance reporting and tax accounting. I work with a wide variety of clients in differing industries.

Derek Francis

Edinburgh Branch Chair Derek Francis is a Barrister of Terra Firma Chambers, Edinburgh, Advocate and Chartered Tax Advisor practising UK-wide. He is recommended for tax matters and trusts work in the latest editions of both Chambers UK and the Legal 500 directories. He is especially highly regarded for his expertise in tax matters relating to trusts and succession. Specialises in providing advice on the tax elements of contentious trusts and succession cases, pensions and charities. As a qualified chartered tax adviser, he is also well placed to advise on non-contentious tax issues.

I am an Associate Director in Deloitte’s Aberdeen office. I specialise in tax advisory projects, mainly M&A work and transfer pricing. I lead Deloitte’s transfer pricing practice in Scotland. I chair the committee that organises our local events (when they can happen in a post covid world!). I volunteer because I enjoy being part of the CIOT/ATT community in Aberdeen, as it’s a close knit group of like-minded tax professionals eager to learn and socialise.
