HMRC's performance measures

HMRC's performance targets are set out in their single departmental plan, updated on 1 October 2019. These include a number of customer-orientated measures such as call handling times and post turnaround. These measures are reported by HMRC on a monthly and quarterly basis.

HMRC confirm the necessary steps for hauliers when travelling to the Republic of Ireland via a GB route

The CIOT has been contacted by HMRC today to highlight the steps that hauliers must take to travel to the Republic of Ireland via a GB route. A ‘GB route’ means that the ferry departs from Great Britain and travels directly to the Republic of Ireland (i.e. the ferry does not travel from GB to Northern Ireland with an onward journey by land).

DAC 6 update

With EU directive DAC 6 ceasing to apply in the UK at 11pm tonight HMRC have informed us that reporting under DAC 6 will still be required for a limited time, but only for arrangements which meet hallmarks under category D, in line with the UK’s obligations under the Free Trade Agreement with the EU.

HMRC letter to those who file VAT returns using XML software

HMRC is writing to VAT registered businesses who submit VAT Returns using eXtensible Markup Language (XML) software. From 8 April 2021, HMRC will no longer accept VAT Returns using this software because they are moving VAT customer accounts to a new IT system that does not accept XML submissions.

Revenue Scotland recruiting new chair

The role of chair of Revenue Scotland is now being advertised by the Scottish Government’s Public Appointments Unit. Current chair Dr Keith Nicolson is scheduled to leave the role in July 2021 and the replacement is expected to take up the post from August 2021.
