Request to move to reduced subscription

The Chartered Institute of Taxation offers several different Associate membership rates.

Standard rate

The CIOT Standard membership rate is applicable to all CIOT members who are working full-time.

Overseas rate

The Overseas membership rate is offered to members living and working outside the United Kingdom and outside the European Union.

Reduced rate

The Reduced membership rate is offered on a temporary basis to members who are not working, and includes all of the literature included in a full rate membership, such as the monthly magazine Tax Adviser and the annual copy of the Annotated Finance Act.

To be eligible for the reduced rate, one of the following reasons should apply to you:

  • Temporarily on a career break for domestic or other reasons (including maternity leave, full-time study or illness)
  • Unemployed
  • Establishing your own tax practice following a period of unemployment, with an income from tax work below £15,000.
  • Aged over 60 and not yet retired, but earning under £15,000 per annum

Retired with literature rate

The Retired with literature membership rate allows the CIOT Associate to use the designatory letters CTA, but assumes that the Associate has retired. Retired members are not required to undertake CPD. The Retired with literature membership rate includes all the literature included in a full rate membership, such as the monthly magazine Tax Adviser and the annual copy of the Annotated Finance Act.

To be eligible for the Retired with literature rate, you must be:

  • Over 60 years and retired; OR
  • Fully retired (regardless of age) and have been a member for 15 years.

Retired without literature rate

The Retired without literature membership rate allows the CIOT Associate to use the designatory letters CTA, but assumes that the Associate has retired. Retired members are not required to undertake CPD. The Retired without literature membership rate does not include the monthly magazine Tax Adviser or the annual copy of the Annotated Finance Act.

To be eligible for the Retired without literature rate, you must be:

  • Over 60 years and fully retired; OR
  • Fully retired (regardless of age) and have been a member for 15 years.

Retired Life Membership (No literature)

The Retired Life Membership rate allows the CIOT Associate to use the letters CTA indefinitely on payment of a one-off fee, but assumes that the Associate has fully retired. Retired members are not required to undertake CPD. The monthly magazines Tax Adviser and the annual copy of the Annotated Finance Act is not included.

To be eligible for Retired Life Membership, You must be:

  • Over 60 years and fully retired; OR
  • Fully retired (regardless of age) and have been a member for 15 years.
