Member support

The COVID-19 pandemic has required all of us to change how we live and work. Here you will find information about support available to our members, including hardship grants.

Support service

We provide a limited support service, where members in smaller firms or not currently working, who would like to speak to someone about the professional challenges they face at this difficult time, can write to membership [at], add "support" in the subject header and a short description of your issues, your membership number and contact details (if these have recently changed); alternativeley call the Support Service on 0845 744 6611 and say "Member Support Service" we will then ask you for a mobile or other private telephone number;  and a senior member of the team will contact you and field a senior volunteer, where appropriate, as soon as possible. We are unable to give technical advice.

We recommend that members working in larger organisations check their staff intranet to determine what employee support services are available.

Hardship grants

The Charity Committee of the Worshipful Company of Tax Advisers considers applications for hardship grants from CIOT and ATT members in financial need. Please see here for further details.

Government helplines

HMRC has launched a tax helpline to support businesses affected by COVID-19: 0800 0159 559. This may be helpful to you and your clients. There is further information about it here.

Looking after yourself

Working as a tax adviser and complying with all your obligations can be demanding and stressful particularly if you have an overwhelming workload due to clients needing advice in such difficult circumstances.
