On 18 April 2006 the Large Business Service (LBS) published Working with Large Business, the LBS Operating Model. The document deserves close attnetion, as it is the published strategy for meeting the LBS share of HMRC's Public Sector Agreements for both customer service targets and for the amount of tax 'yield' the LBS produces as a result of enquiries. While the strategy will have a direct bearing on the way in which the 1,300 or so largest corporates are dealt with by HMRC over the next few years, it will also be of wider interest because many of the initiatives and policies will be replicated by offices outside the LBS. Directly, however, it is of the utmost importance to 'UK plc', since the businesses dealt with by the LBS together pay over half of all taxes and duties collected by HMRC - some £200 billion in 2004/05.
