HMRC PAYE update (Faster payments, RTI and the Olympics)
HMRC have provided a further informal update on PAYE related matters for sharing. The update covers the Faster Payments Service, RTI and employing staff during the Olympics.
HMRC are now accepting Faster Payments
Since 16 December 2011 we have been accepting payments made using the Faster Payments Service. This allows you to make faster electronic payments, typically via internet or telephone banking, enabling them to be processed on the same or next day.
When making a payment to HMRC please make sure you always use the correct bank account details and reference number. This will ensure that your payment is received, and will help you to avoid incurring a penalty, interest or surcharge for late payment. It is also important that you check with your bank to find out the limit of how much can be transferred for faster payment transactions.

Real Time Information
I am pleased to be able to let you know that the Real Time Information (RTI) Programme will be using this weekly email channel to let you have regular RTI news updates. These RTI news updates will be monthly to start with but may become more frequent as we progress with the work of the Programme.
2012 is going to be an exciting year for employers as well as HMRC. It sees the introduction of the RTI pilot for some employers in April 2012 in the pilot, with more pilot employers joining later in the year before most employers join RTI in 2013. We must continue to make sure that all employers receive the information they need about RTI. We need to understand how best to help employers get ready for RTI and migrate to the new system.
At this stage we would like further assurance that we are reaching all employers with the initial RTI messages as a minimum. I wondered whether you might be able to help us with that. We need your ideas for how we might extend our reach and satisfy ourselves that every employer knows that RTI is coming along and that they know how to get more information, whether from us, their advisors, suppliers or representative groups.
So, if you have an idea or suggestion to help us to do this, please let me know by dropping an email to Alison Wells by 10 January in the first instance.
