Budget 2012 Podcasts
The CIOT has produced two podcasts surveying some aspects of the recent Budget.
In one, John Whiting (Tax Policy Director) and Robin Williamson (LITRG Technical Director) look at some of the headline-making announcements. They discuss the Personal Allowance changes, Age Allowance phasing out and the Child Benefit withdrawal. The first two have particular LITRG resonances. As for child benefit, some of the CIOT/LITRG concerns have been answered but many issues remain and it is clear that the changes are going to draw in a good number of members’ clients from next January.
The other podcast focuses on some of the more technical issues that did not make the real headlines. George Crozier (External Relations Manager) and John Whiting start off with the GAAR and then run through Reliefs capping – something we are going to need to do a good deal of probing on in the coming consultation period. They look at the (admittedly well-reported) measures around high-value residential property before updating on Statutory Residence and Ordinary Residence, some tax administration measures (including a small concession won on Dishonest Conduct) and finish off with news on IR35.
