Online filing - Common problems and workarounds for commercial software

HMRC have published an updated list of common problems and possible workarounds for filing online using commercial software. These are HMRC-sanctioned workarounds and no compliance action will be taken for an "incorrect return" created by applying the workaround. However, if an agent feels unable to apply the workaround, HMRC have confirmed that they will accept a paper return with a reasonable excuse claim.

A key to the various acronyms used in the lists of problems appears at the end of the document, which can be downloaded here, or should be published on the HMRC website shortly in the tax agents and advisers section.

Any members who have any queries or further problems regarding online filing can email the CIOT at technical@tax.org.uk with ‘Online filing –FAO Tina Riches’ in the subject line.
