Please see the CIOT's policy on providing replies to members' queries which explains that the Institute does not currently have the resources to provide a technical advisory service, and can only take on those queries which bring to light anomalies in or problems with tax law or administration.

We aim to get back to you within one working week.

If you have a specific tax query then you can search for a Chartered Tax Adviser in your area via our online directory. You can search by specialism and/or location.

Although we are not generally able to give advice to members of the public, you might be able to get help from:

• The tax charity TaxAid - see http://taxaid.org.uk/pages/contact-us - if you are on a low income; or
• TaxHelp for Older People - see www.taxvol.org.uk - if you are aged 60 or over and your household income is less than £17,000 a year.
