Associated Charities

CIOT members have been generously donating to the following independent tax charities with their annual membership subscriptions for more than 10 years.

Set out below is a brief outline of the charities and their activities, but you can find out more about them by searching the register on the Charity Commission website and the charities’ own websites.

TABF is managed by the Worshipful Company of Tax Advisers and is mainly concerned with providing bursaries to registered students who can demonstrate a need for financial assistance towards their training to become a Chartered Tax Adviser and advice and financial assistance to members and their dependants following a death, or because of illness or old age. Financial assistance is given either by one-off grants or interest fee loan grants.

Tax Volunteers (TV) – Tax Help for Older People – RCN 1102276 - Pineapple Business Park, Salway Ash, Bridport, Dorset DT6 5DB Tel:0845 601 3321 Email: taxvol@taxvol.org.uk

Managed from its call centre in Dorset, TV has established a nationwide network of volunteer tax professionals who provide free telephone and face-to-face tax advice to older people on low incomes who would not otherwise be able to afford to pay for such advice. In addition, TV provides education, training and technical support to other voluntary sector agencies.

Through a network of volunteer tax professionals TA provides a national helpline to anyone on a low income who cannot afford to pay for tax advice. There are face to face services in London, Birmingham and Manchester. TA also organises conferences and provides help and support to tax professionals offering pro bono tax advice and advice on tax debt and tax credits.
