CIOT reaches 16,000 member milestone

The Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT) has announced that it now has more than 16,000 members. This means the Institute’s membership has doubled in the last 21 years.

The 16,000th member is Mr Sandeep Jalaf of London, who works for Morrison FS Ltd. He will be formally admitted to the Institute at the November Admission Ceremony.

CIOT President Patrick Stevens commented:

“I am delighted to be able to report that we have now passed the 16,000 member mark. Together with our students and our colleagues in the ATT, we represent a family of some 30,000 tax professionals.

“I welcome Sandeep Jalaf as our 16,000th member, and look forward to being able to welcome him in person at our next admission ceremony.

“There is considerable potential for us to be able to grow still further. It has always been my vision that our Institute should aim to have as members all people working in tax who can achieve the exam standards that we set ourselves. This is a profession and it is to the benefit of practitioners to test themselves with our exams and to be part of a professional body. In addition, if our body can represent substantially all high quality tax practitioners it enhances the standing of our members in their dealings with clients, potential clients and the world at large. It also enhances the standing of our Institute when dealing with HMRC and other parts of government.”
