On Monday 9 June Tax Advice Week begins with a roundtable discussion on green taxes. Speakers will include Michael Meacher MP and representatives from the tax profession as well as HM Treasury. One of the new CIOT President’s themes is green taxes and the roundtable is part of a programme on this topic. During Monday afternoon, a blue plaque will be unveiled in the City of London at the location in Pancras Lane where the Institute of Taxation was founded in 1930.

Later in the week, the CIOT will launch a new online service for its members and the general public that will make it easier to donate to CIOT-supported charities TaxAid and Tax Help for Older People.

Nick Goulding, CIOT President, says: “As well as informing people about the tax system, we believe it is very important that those who need tax advice, but cannot afford to pay for it, are helped. Many of our members work as volunteers for TaxAid and Tax Help for Older People. For those members who do not have the time to do this but who would like to support these charities, we wanted to find another way of ensuring they can do so. This is why we are making it easier for these members and for the general public to donate via our website.”
