Football and tax at local Nottingham school

Andrew Hubbard, Vice-President of The Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT), will teach a tax lesson at Nottingham Forest Football Club on Thursday 18 October. The lesson will be taught to a class from Bigwood Comprehensive School The lesson has been devised in conjunction with Nottingham Forest Football Club and is based on a joint project that the CIOT undertook with Arsenal Football Club last year.

Rob Ellerby, CIOT President, created the tax lesson in 2006 with Scott Cohen who heads Arsenal’s Education department.

Rob Ellerby says: “The way the lesson is structured is very innovative and really helps to engage young people with quite difficult concepts.”

The education project is part of the CIOT’s Tax Advice Week. The week aims to help explain tax to everyone by way of a variety of events and activities.

Andrew Hubbard adds: “It will be very interesting to explain tax through football. I am delighted that Nottingham Forest has got behind this project.”

Sean Kane, Study Centre Manager at Nottingham Forest, expressed his delight on behalf of Nottingham Forest FC at being able to support this project.

Sean Kane says: “Nottingham Forest is firmly committed to supporting a wide range of community and educational initiatives which benefit the young people of Nottingham. We believe this innovative way of using football to introduce tax issues to youngsters is an excellent idea.”
