Rob Ellerby, President of The Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT) with roots in Suffolk, will
teach a tax lesson at Westbourne High School on Thursday 18 October using football. The lesson has been devised in conjunction with Ipswich Town Football Club and is based on a joint project that the CIOT undertook with Arsenal Football Club last year.
Rob Ellerby says: “It’s great to return to Ipswich and teach tax using as an example the football club I have supported since the early 1960s. The way the lesson is structured is very innovative and really helps to engage young people with quite difficult concepts.”
The education project is part of the CIOT’s Tax Advice Week. The week aims to help explain tax to everyone by way of a variety of events and activities.
Matt Try, Learning Projects Manager at Ipswich Town Community Trust, says: ”The Community Trust are always keen to support educational initiatives across a variety of subject areas and have done for a number of years. Taxation is a new area to the Trust’s Learning team and we welcome the challenge of working with CIOT to make the topic relevant and ‘real’ to the Westbourne students.”
Tax Advice Week is sponsored by Interactive Data and Pure Recruitment.
