CIOT statement on Federation of Tax Advisers

The Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT) has received enquiries regarding a recent press report about discussions with the Federation of Tax Advisers (FTA).
It was reported in Taxation that: “A spokesperson for the FTA says that the FTA is talking to the Chartered Institute of Taxation about the relaunch and does not foresee any problems as the FTA is ‘lower level than the CIOT and Association of Taxation Technicians’. He says that it ‘fills a gap in the market for those who mainly do self assessment work and do not want to take the ATT exams which also cover company law and accountancy’.”

The CIOT wishes to clarify that, contrary to the assertions made to Taxation, no such talks have taken place and that the FTA has yet to approach the CIOT regarding the matter.
