CIOT Announces Details of CTA Day – Tuesday 13 September The Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT) is holding CTA Day on Tuesday 13 September. CTA stands for Chartered Tax Adviser and the day is focused on the expertise and clear tax advice CTAs give to their clients. CTA Day is part of the CIOT’s 75th Anniversary.

Peter Kempster, President of the CIOT, says: “CTA Day is very exciting. The range of events across the country reflects the fact that we are a national organisation, representing tax professionals everywhere. The panellists at the debate in London are of top calibre and will offer interesting insights into current arguments about tax and tax policy.”

Across the UK, CIOT branches are holding various events that include local schools competitions, one-day conferences and debates between politicians and tax experts. Events in London include:

A balloon release will take place at 10 am. There will be a prize for the person who returns the balloon that has travelled the furthest.

A national tax competition will be launched on the day. The competition first prize is a two-night stay in Boston generously provided by Tourism Massachusetts and the Bulfinch Hotel. The Savoy Hotel has kindly sponsored afternoon Tea for Two as second prize. Entries can be made through the CIOT website.

The day will end with a panel debate. This takes place at the Diskus Conference Centre in central London. John Whiting, former CIOT President, will chair the panel. The panellists are:

  • Philip Hammond, Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury (Conservative)
    · Dr Vincent Cable, Shadow Treasury Spokesman (Liberal Democrat)
    · Howard Reed, Research Director, Institute for Public Policy Research
    · Maggie Fleming, Chartered Tax Adviser and Daily Telegraph columnist
    · David Ladds, lecturer in tax law at King’s College.

They will face an audience of media and tax professionals who will submit questions prior to the event.
