Following a warm reception from Liverpool teachers to new teaching materials called Tax Talking that explain the fundamentals of tax to young people, the Merseyside Branch of The Chartered Institute of Taxation and The Association of Taxation Technicians is offering to work directly with interested schools and consumer bodies in the area.
The local Institute and Association Branch, which has approaching 1000 members in Liverpool and the surrounding area, is offering to make a representative available to schools and consumer bodies who would like to know more about Tax Talking and to answer any tax questions that they have. The two bodies that have produced Tax Talking have over 15,000 professionally qualified tax members across the country and are registered charities.
John Elliott, Chairman of the local Branch, and Taxation Consultant at Macfarlane and Co. said:
“ It may seem strange that schools are teaching pupils about why Government raises and spends taxes, but we all pay tax which is spent on services such as social welfare, health and education - it affects all of us.
“We’ve developed Tax Talking with teachers to ensure that the materials make tax understandable on the issues that will affect pupils as soon as they leave school, such as understanding their payslip.”
The materials include a video with an exclusive interview with the Chancellor and background notes with explanations of key terms and fun exercises. If you would like to receive a Tax Talking pack or would like to contact a member in your area then contact Penny Finch on 020 7245 4122.
