As part of The Chartered Institute of Taxation campaign to make the tax system simpler, we have linked up with The Observer to find out more about why people have problems completing their tax return. The Observer on 6 January 2002 contained the following reader’s survey:
How difficult do you find completing the tax return?
Are you worried that you may have made mistakes on your Tax Return and face large penalties?
Have you telephoned the Inland Revenue enquiry office for assistance?
If your answer to the previous question is yes, did you find the staff helpful?
Which areas of the return do you find most difficult?
Do you believe most people should be able to fill in their tax return without expert assistance?
