CIOT and ATT Leeds Branch

Welcome to the Leeds Branch of the Chartered Institute of Taxation and Association of Taxation Technicians.

Welcome from your Branch Chair, Emma Rawson

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the website of the Leeds Branch of the Association of Tax Technicians and the Chartered Institute of Taxation.

When I took over as Chair of the Leeds Branch back in the Summer of 2020 it’s fair to say I didn’t see things panning out quite the way they have in the last year.  However I am proud of how well the Branch has adapted to the demands of the pandemic, and pleased to note that our technical webinars have been attracting record audiences. In the coming year we are looking to build on that success by expanding our online soft skills and social offerings, with the hope that we will be able to see you all in person in the not too distant future.

The Branch can’t function without its members, and we are always very keen to hear suggestions as to things you think we should be doing more (or less) of.  We would also encourage you to get in touch to explore how you can become more involved with the Branch – whether that is presenting a technical seminar or joining the Committee. There is something to suit everyone, and we are keen to involve members from all backgrounds and levels of experience.

On behalf of the entire Leeds Branch committee, I would like to thank you for your support to date and wish you all the best for the future.

Meet the Leeds Branch Committee

Emma Rawson

I first got involved in the branch network as I enjoy meeting other ATT/CIOT members, and I think involvement with a branch is a great way to build your network, career and skills. I am a Technical Officer with the Association of Taxation Technicians (ATT) with a special focus on business taxes. My day to day work includes drafting consultation responses to consultations, representing the ATT in meetings with HMRC / HM Treasury, giving talks and writing technical articles.

Craig Hughes

I am on the Technical Committee which means I am involved with the organisation of technical seminars and developing the seminar programme. I am keen to promote the Branch to local members and make the technical seminars as relevant, interesting and timely as possible. The Technical Committee is constantly reviewing the delivery of the programme to ensure members’ needs are met. I am a Tax Director and lead the tax team at Leeds-based firm, Brown Butler Chartered Accountants. Much of my work involves advising companies and their shareholders on a wide range of tax issues, including profit extraction, Management Buy Outs, acquisitions and disposals, demergers, groups reorganisations, Venture Capital reliefs (EIS/ SEIS), share schemes, and R&D Tax Credits.
