CTA from 2009

CTA from 2009 Welcome to this new page of the Institute's website. The CIOT has just launched a new modular examination structure for the CTA (Chartered Tax Adviser) qualification. This will be examinable from May 2009. Current and prospective students, employers and any other interested parties will find all the information required about the new examination structure on this part of the website. The information available includes sample papers, suggested answers, the syllabus and detailed explanatory information regarding the new papers.

To coincide with the launch of the new E-Assessment Law examination (examinable from 1 December 2008), a fifth edition of the Law manual 'Essential Law for the Chartered Tax Adviser' has been produced. An order form is available on this page.

If you do have any further questions or feedback on the new examination structure, members of the Education Team will be only too pleased to assist. Please contact Education on 020 7235 9381 or via the dedicated email address: cta2009@ciot.org.uk.

Exemption Conversion Form
Information for students wishing to convert a current exemption into a credit

If you are holding an existing exemption from the current Paper I then this will be equivalent to a credit in the new Awareness paper. If you have a credit in the current Paper II then this will be the equivalent of a credit in both Advisory papers. The exemption will be carried forward automatically to the new structure (if you have not completed the examination following the November 2008 session). You do not need to take any action.

If you have not yet taken the CTA examination and do not intend to do so until the start of the new CTA examination structure, if you choose, you may convert your existing exemption into a credit using the Credit Conversion Application Form. A further fee of £60 is payable. For example if you were originally granted an exemption from Paper I due to your ICAEW qualification then you may convert this into a credit from the Application and Interaction paper in the new examination structure. Please see the Credit Conversion Application Form for further details.

If you hold an exemption and also one or two credits from success in individual examination papers under the current structure, but have yet to complete the CIOT examination, then you may still convert your exemption into a credit in the new structure. However, you would have to start the qualification again and forgo the credits gained by passing individual CIOT papers. Please contact the Education Team if you have any queries.
